Ganga Saga Mela
Ganga Saga Mela, on the confluence of the Ganga river with the Bay of Bengal, is the largest annual assemblage of devotees in India. Over a million pilgrims come from far-flung corners of India and beyond, for a sacred dip at this holy spot at Sagar Island, every year on the 14th of January. Having travelled to India many times, I joined the festival in January 2003.
